Build the route around time, not a checklist
Arusha is a common gateway to Tanzania’s Northern Circuit. Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti may look close on a map, but road time adds up. Fewer bases and longer stays usually create a better first safari than rushing through every park.
Allow five to seven safari days when possible
Protect arrival and departure time separately. If the Serengeti is included, give it enough time or consider a regional flight when it fits the budget.
Choose the operator carefully
Confirm whether the vehicle is private or shared, how many guests it carries, what park fees and transfers are included, the guide arrangement, luggage limits, emergency support and the real daily drive times.
Prepare for early starts and changing conditions
Layer clothing, protect cameras from dust, keep important medicines and documents in your carry-on and ask about electricity and laundry at every lodge. Wildlife is never guaranteed; patience is part of the experience.
Entry and health checks
Requirements change. Verify visa and passport rules directly with Tanzania Immigration Services. Arrange a travel-health consultation and review current information on the CDC Tanzania traveler page, including malaria prevention appropriate to your itinerary.

What shaped our experience
From Arabian horses during our Doha prelude to Arusha and Tarangire, our story follows the places and encounters we experienced firsthand. The journey continues through Mto wa Mbu and Gibb’s Farm to Ngorongoro: crater sunrises, lions, rhinos and a serval, evenings at our A&K camp, and an afternoon with the Maasai. The long drives and rough roads also shaped our experience—and reinforced why we would consider a bush flight for longer transfers between destinations such as Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti when budget and schedules permit.
The people made an equally important difference. We travelled with an experienced Tour Director and a small group of six. Everyone was genuinely kind, we all got along remarkably well, and that easy sense of companionship made the journey even more memorable.
