Antarctica Travel Planning Hub

Begin with the story. Continue with the planning.
Our ten-day journey through expedition began in Ushuaia with thirteen family members and friends, crossed the Drake Passage aboard an Atlas Ocean Voyages expedition yacht, and gave us five remarkable days among glaciers, penguins, whales and seals. This hub keeps that personal account at the center while organizing the practical information a first-time visitor needs.

What shaped our experience
We sailed as a group of thirteen on a small expedition yacht. Seasickness preparation helped many of us enjoy the Drake Passage, while those who waited until symptoms appeared had a harder day. The operator supplied insulated waterproof boots and expedition parkas, so lightweight layers proved more useful than excessive heavy clothing. Five sunny days were fortunate, not something future travelers should expect.
Responsible Antarctica travel
Antarctica is remote, environmentally sensitive and governed by strict visitor practices. Follow your expedition team’s instructions, maintain wildlife distance, clean clothing and equipment for biosecurity, and never remove natural material. Review the current IAATO expedition guidance before departure.
