7-Day Canadian Rockies Itinerary

A flexible first-time route through Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Yoho and the Icefields Parkway.

Day 1 — Arrive in Calgary

Collect your vehicle, settle in and keep the first day easy. Confirm park passes, reservations, weather and road conditions.

Day 2 — Calgary to Banff

Drive west at a relaxed pace, stop for foothill views and explore downtown Banff in the evening.

Day 3 — Lake Louise and Moraine Lake

Use the current reservation or shuttle system. Allow time to enjoy each lake without overloading the day.

From our trip

Lunch at Fairmont Château Lake Louise overlooking the turquoise water became one of our most memorable moments.

Day 4 — Yoho National Park

Visit Emerald Lake and choose additional stops according to road access, weather and energy.

Day 5 — Johnston Canyon and Banff

Start early for Johnston Canyon, then choose the Banff Gondola, Vermilion Lakes or a slower afternoon in town.

Day 6 — Icefields Parkway

Make the road itself the experience. Select safe, open viewpoints and walks; do not try to stop everywhere. Athabasca Glacier and waterfalls can anchor the day when accessible.

Day 7 — Return to Calgary

Allow generous time and add a final scenic stop only if weather and departure timing permit.

Where to stay

Calgary works for arrival; downtown Banff is convenient for evenings; Lake Louise suits early access to nearby scenery. Compare cost, parking and cancellation terms.
