How to connect the days
Use a well-connected Seoul neighborhood as one base and group nearby sights together. A first five-day visit can devote one day to historic Seoul, one to neighborhoods and food, one to the modern city and viewpoints, and one to the DMZ, while protecting the arrival or final day for a slower start, shopping or a place you want to revisit.
Add Busan, Gyeongju or Jeju only when the trip is long enough to absorb the transfer. For a short first visit, depth in Seoul is usually more rewarding than changing hotels repeatedly. Spring and autumn are popular for comfortable walking, but our own July visit showed that summer can still work when travelers prepare for humidity and rain.
The DMZ deserves separate planning. Tour access and included stops can change, and the Third Infiltration Tunnel involves a steep underground walk. Confirm identification, pickup, accessibility and current operations directly with an authorized operator before booking.
